Epidemiological Study
For more than 80 years, the transfusion of blood components has been a common practice in hospitals. The constant changes in the patterns of blood component usage reflect the evolution in medical and surgical practice, the incorporation of new technologies, the use of alternatives to transfusion, as well as demographic changes in the population and initiatives of the authorities to formalise healthcare.
For this reason, this observational, transversal, and prospective study was conducted through a survey carried out over 28 days, divided into 4 one-week periods throughout 2018 and 2019, and the results were compared with those obtained in the first epidemiological study conducted in Catalonia in 2007.
Consensus Protocol (TTP)
Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) is a rare disease (10 cases/1,000,000 inhabitants/year) that presents as a severe thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA) with significant organ involvement.
It behaves as a very serious disease if the appropriate treatment is not started early. Mortality without standard treatment reaches 90%.
The Blood and Tissue Bank has developed a consensus protocol together with:
