Epidemiological Study
For more than 80 years, the transfusion of blood components has been a common practice in hospitals. Blood component use patterns are constantly changing due to developments in medical and surgical practice, the incorporation of new technologies and the use of alternatives to transfusion, as well as demographic changes in the population and initiatives on the part of the authorities to standardise health care.
It is for this reason that this observational, cross-cutting prospective study has been carried out based on a survey given over 28 days, distributed in 4 cut-off periods of 7 days during the years 2018 and 2019. In addition, the results have been compared with those obtained in the first epidemiological study carried out in Catalonia in 2007.
Consensus Protocol (TTP)
Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) is a rare disease (10 cases/1,000,000 inhabitants/year) that presents as a severe thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA) with significant organ involvement.
It behaves as a very serious disease if the appropriate treatment is not started early. Mortality without standard treatment reaches 90%.
The Blood and Tissue Bank has developed a consensus protocol together with:
- Bellvitge University Hospital
