Clinical information
Diagnostic Utility:
This is the quantitative detection of antibodies against the surface antigen of the hepatitis B virus (anti-HBs), and its determination is useful in:
- Determining the degree of immunity to the hepatitis B virus in individuals who have been exposed to HBV and/or in vaccinated individuals.
- Transfusion of blood products, progenitor cells, umbilical cord blood cells, solid organs, and tissues.
Method:
Chemiluminescent Microparticle Immunoassay (CMIA).
Reference Values
The possible result is: Quantitative Value (mIU/mL).
Diagnostic Algorithm:
Not applicable
Response Time:
Maximum 2 working days.
Specimen information
Sample: Serum and/or plasma.
Tube: 1-5 mL aliquots, plasma tubes with EDTA, sodium citrate, ACD, CPDA-1, or sodium heparin as anticoagulant and/or serum tube with or without separator.
Minimum essential volume: 1 ml
Stability:
- At room temperature: ≤ 3 days
- In refrigeration: ≤ 14 days
- Sample frozen at or below -20ºC: 10 years
Transport instructions: Preferably at room temperature if it is whole blood tubes and refrigerated if it is serum and/or plasma aliquots.
Reasons for rejection: Highly hemolyzed sample.
