Diagnostic Utility:

This test is used to quantify red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets, and to determine leukocyte populations in a biological sample. It is a determination used for quality control of blood components, units of umbilical cord blood, and products for hematopoietic progenitor transplantation, among other applications.

Method:

The Sysmex XN counter uses flow cytometry and hydrodynamic focusing methods.

Specimen information

Sample: Peripheral blood, umbilical cord blood, bone marrow, apheresis, blood components, etc.
Tube: EDTA K3 tube (peripheral blood) or additive-free tube (anticoagulated samples).
Minimum volume: 1 mL
Stability:

• At room temperature: 1 day
• In refrigeration: 1 day

Transport instructions: Preferably peripheral blood at room temperature; umbilical cord blood, bone marrow, refrigerated apheresis.

Reason for rejection: Sample with high hemolysis or clots.
