Clinical information
Diagnostic utility:
This is a high-frequency antigen. Its determination serves to know if the Cellano (k) antigen is present in the erythrocytes or not. It is part of the study of the erythrocyte phenotype. It is also useful in the context of studying the specificity of irregular antibodies to demonstrate that in the presence of anti-k specificity, the person who developed the antibody is k negative.
Method:
Hemagglutination.
Reference values
The possible results are: Negative, Positive.
In case the result is doubtful, for example in the case of recent transfusions, it is reported as such and the need to perform complementary studies for the unequivocal categorization of the Cellano (k) phenotype is indicated.
Diagnostic algorithm:
Not applicable.
Turnaround time:
1 day.
