Antigen Phenotype S

Clinical information

Diagnostic Utility:

This test is used to determine whether the S antigen is present in red blood cells. It is part of the erythrocyte phenotype study. It is also useful in the context of studying the specificity of irregular antibodies to demonstrate that in the presence of an anti-S specificity, the individual who has developed the antibody is S negative.

Method:                                                

Hemagglutination.

Reference Values

Possible results are: Negative, Positive.
In case of a doubtful result, for example due to recent transfusions, it will be reported and the need for complementary studies to unequivocally classify the S phenotype will be indicated.
