Clinical information

Diagnostic Utility:

This test is used to determine whether the S antigen is present on red blood cells. It is part of the study of the erythrocyte phenotype. It is also useful in the study of the specificity of irregular antibodies to demonstrate that in the presence of an anti-S specificity, the person who developed the antibody is S negative.

Method:                                             

Hemagglutination.

Reference Values

Possible results are: Negative, Positive.
In case of a doubtful result, for example due to recent transfusions, this is reported and the need for complementary studies to unequivocally characterize the S phenotype is indicated.
