Clinical information

Diagnostic Utility:

This test is used to determine the presence or absence of the N antigen on red blood cells. It is part of the red blood cell phenotype study. It is also useful in the context of studying the specificity of irregular antibodies to demonstrate that in the presence of an anti-N specificity, the person who has developed the antibody is N negative.

Method:                                             

Hemagglutination.

Reference Values

Possible results are: Negative, Positive.
In cases where the result is doubtful, for example, due to recent transfusions, it is reported as such and additional studies are indicated to unequivocally classify the N phenotype.
