Clinical information
Diagnostic Utility:
This test is used to determine whether the Jkb antigen is present or absent on erythrocytes. It is part of the erythrocyte phenotype study. It is also useful in the investigation of irregular antibody specificities to demonstrate that in the presence of an anti-Jkb specificity, the person who developed the antibody is Jkb negative.
Method:
Hemagglutination.
Reference Values
Possible results are: Negative, Positive.
In case of doubtful results, for example due to recent transfusions, this will be reported and the need for further studies to unequivocally categorize the Jkb phenotype will be indicated.
Diagnostic Algorithm:
Not applicable.
Turnaround Time:
1 day.
