Clinical information
Diagnostic Utility:
This test is used to determine the presence or absence of the Jka antigen on red blood cells. It is part of the red cell phenotype study. It is also useful in the study of the specificity of irregular antibodies to demonstrate that in the presence of an anti-Jka specificity, the person who has developed the antibody is Jka negative.
Method:
Hemagglutination.
Reference Values
The possible results are: Negative, Positive.
In cases where the result is doubtful, for example due to recent transfusions, this is reported and the need for complementary studies to unequivocally determine the Jka phenotype is indicated.
Diagnostic Algorithm:
Not applicable.
Turnaround Time:
1 day.
