Clinical information

Diagnostic Utility:

This test is used to determine whether the Fyb antigen is present on red blood cells. It is part of the red blood cell phenotype study. It is also useful in the investigation of irregular antibodies specificity to demonstrate that in the presence of an anti-Fyb specificity, the person who has developed the antibody is Fyb negative.

Method:                                            

Hemagglutination.

Reference Values

Possible results: Negative, Positive.
If the result is inconclusive due to previous transfusions or because the sample has a positive direct antiglobulin test, this will be reported and further studies will be recommended for the unequivocal categorization of the Fyb phenotype.
