Clinical information
Diagnostic Utility:
This is a high-frequency antigen. Its determination serves to determine whether the Kpb antigen is present or not in the red blood cells. It is part of the red cell phenotype study. It is also useful in the study of the specificity of irregular antibodies to demonstrate that in the presence of an anti-Kpb specificity, the person who has developed the antibody is Kpb negative.
Method:
Hemagglutination.
Reference Values
Possible results are: Negative, Positive.
If the result is doubtful, for example due to recent transfusions or because the sample has a positive direct antiglobulin test, it is reported and additional studies are indicated to unequivocally determine the Kpb phenotype.
Diagnostic Algorithm:
Not applicable.
Turnaround Time:
1 day.
