Clinical information

Diagnostic Utility:

This test is used to determine the presence or absence of the Kell antigen on red blood cells. It is part of the study of the erythrocyte phenotype. It is also useful in the context of studying the specificity of irregular antibodies to demonstrate that in the presence of an anti-K specificity, the person who has developed the antibody is K negative.

Method:                                             

Hemagglutination.

Reference Range

Possible results are: Negative, Positive.
In case of a doubtful result, for example in the case of recent transfusions, the same is reported and the need for further studies to unequivocally determine the Kell phenotype is indicated.
