Clinical information
Diagnostic utility:
This test is used to determine whether the Rh e antigen is present or not in erythrocytes. It is part of the erythrocyte phenotype study. It is also useful in the context of studying the specificity of irregular antibodies to demonstrate that in the presence of an anti-e specificity, the person who developed the antibody is e negative.
Method: Hemagglutination.
Reference values
Possible results are: Negative, Positive.
If the result is doubtful due to a possible RHCE variant or previous transfusions, this is reported and further studies are recommended for the unequivocal categorization of the Rhe phenotype.
Diagnostic algorithm:
Not applicable.
