Rh D Phenotype

Clinical information

Diagnostic Utility:

This test is used to determine the presence or absence of the Rh D antigen on red blood cells. It is part of the erythrocyte phenotyping study. It is also useful in the context of studying the specificity of irregular antibodies to demonstrate that in the presence of an anti-D specificity, the person who has developed the antibody is D negative.

Method:                                             

Hemagglutination.

Reference Values

Possible results are: Negative, Positive.
In case the result is doubtful, due to a possible RHD variant, it is reported and the need for complementary studies to unequivocally categorize the RhD blood group is indicated.
