Clinical information
Diagnostic Utility:
This test is used to determine the presence or absence of the Rh C antigen in erythrocytes. It is part of the erythrocyte phenotype study. It is also useful in the study of irregular antibody specificity to demonstrate that in the presence of an anti-C specificity, the person who has developed the antibody is C negative.
Method:
Hemagglutination.
Reference Range
Possible results: Negative, Positive.
In cases where the result is doubtful, due to a possible RHCE variant or previous transfusions, it is reported as such and the need for complementary studies to unequivocally categorise the RhC phenotype is indicated.
Diagnostic Algorithm:
Not applicable.
Turnaround Time:
1 day.
