Concordia is an interregional cooperative programme for the donation of umbilical cord blood (UCB), based on a relationship of trust between the Department of Health of the Government of Catalonia and the Health Departments of other Autonomous Communities: the Balearic Islands, Aragon, Navarre, Extremadura, Cantabria, and the Principality of Andorra.

The BST as a Central Point

Within the Program, the Blood and Tissue Bank (BST) is responsible for cryopreservation, quality control, storage, and distribution to streamline research, effectiveness in outcomes, and economic profitability by unifying donations at a central and strategic point.

 

Quality

National and international accreditations ensure that cord blood units undergo analyses to ensure product quality, complying with quality standards through the CCA (Joint Accreditation Committee) in Spain, and FACT-Netcord internationally.

The Program in Numbers

As of today, the Concordia Program has 45 affiliated maternity hospitals from six Spanish Autonomous Communities and the Principality of Andorra.

The Program has over 20,000 units of high-quality umbilical cord blood in reserve, available in national and international registries for any patient in need.

So far, 2,000 units from the BST Cord Blood Bank have been transplanted in around thirty countries.
